Safety remains a top priority for members and guests of PNW Tennis Centers. Below you will find a detailed description of PNW Tennis Centers’ Updated Safety Procedures and Protocol revised to add extra precautions in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities.  This outline has been prepared using the guidelines and recommendations from the following resources:

  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 
  • Federal OSHA standards related to COVID-19 
  • Washington State Department of Health (DOH) 
  • Washington State “Safe Start” Proclamation 20-25 guidelines 
  • Washington State Department of Labor and Industries 
  • United States Tennis Association (USTA) 

Safety Precautions and Procedures

    • Temperature Checks: Required for all members, guests and staff.
      • Zero tolerance policy. If exhibiting a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit on the first reading, the participant must leave immediately. A second reading will not be performed.
    • Face Coverings: All staff must continue to wear USTA PNW provided face coverings at all times when on-site, in-office, or delivering programs, events and activities on-court and off-court.
      • Please see facial covering guidelines below for required and optional activities for when members, guests and all players must wear a cloth face covering as described by the Washington Department of Health.
      • When Face Coverings Are Required:
        • Facial coverings continue to be mandatory in shared spaces (hallways, check-in area, bathrooms, etc), AND
        • Facial coverings continue to be mandated during on-court Indoor Programs and Private Lessons, AND
        • Facial coverings continue to be mandated at all times when entering and exiting assigned Indoor and Outdoor tennis courts.
      • When Face Coverings Are Optional:
        • Per the Governor’s latest guidelines and mandates, face coverings for Members and Guests are optional only during competition and competitive play as follows:
        • Court Reservations/Rentals reserved for self-directed competitive play
        • Facility Leagues, Women/Mens Flights
        • Tournament Matches/USTA League matches
      • When Face Coverings Are Not Required:
        • Per the Governor’s updated guidelines and mandates, face coverings for Members and Guests are not required as follows:
        • Outdoor programs and lessons
        • Outdoor court rentals
        • Outdoor competition and match play
      • If you do not have a face covering/mask, the facility will provide you with one to wear free of charge.
      • Children 2 to 4 years of age are recommended to wear face coverings, but it is not required.
      • Minimum 6 feet distance, adherence to Safe Play Guidelines, and facility safety protocols remain in place. We will continue to evolve and mirror guidelines and mandates as directed by federal, state and local health agencies.
      • Number of players on a court is still at a maximum of 6 people indoors.
      • Viewing/Spectators not allowed indoors.
      • Outdoor Court viewing is allowed.
    • What if I cannot wear a mask for health/medical reasons? Will I still be unable to play tennis at the facility? 
      • Unfortunately, at this time and in alignment with the Governor and WA Department of Health statewide face covering requirements, our facilities require all members, guests, and staff to wear face coverings, no exceptions.
      • If you have a health/medical exemption, we are able to provide the following accommodation to help you continue to play tennis: (1) ship free loaner tennis equipment in order for you to play tennis at home or suitable area, (2) provide limited, remote tennis lessons via video conferencing, (3) provide a list of other clubs/facilities that may or may not be able to provide additional accommodation.
      • We will continue to adapt in lock-step with federal, state, and local agencies for the safety of members, guests, and staff.
    • Hygiene: Asking staff, members and guests to practice frequent and good hand and respiratory hygiene.
      • We have installed hand sanitation kiosks throughout the facility, including court side.
      • Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and/or use hand sanitizer.
      • Cover your mouth with a sleeve of tissue when coughing or sneezing
    • Physical Distancing: Enforcing physical distancing strategies at the facility.
      • You must maintain 6ft of distance between you and others not in the same household.
      • Only 1 patron at the front desk at a time, adheres to the social distancing markers.
      • Follow directional tape for movement through the building (if applicable).
        • Players are asked to leave the facility immediately at the end of each lesson/court reservation by exiting the building as instructed by the signs posted on your court. 
          • VTC Court Exits
            • Courts 1-5 will exit the building through the associated court-side doors.
            • Courts 6-9 will exit through the assigned side door then through the outer gate. 
          • GTC Court Exit
            • Courts 1 & 2 exit through Main Exit/entrance doors. 
            • Courts 3&4 exit through the emergency door near the roll up door. 
            • Courts 5&6 exit through northernmost emergency exit by court 6. 
      • Common/viewing areas will remain closed until further notice.
        • Players will not be allowed to wait inside the building prior to their court time and should wait in their cars before their court time.
        • Gathering/congregating anywhere on-site is prohibited. 
          • Spectators, including children not playing tennis, are discouraged. 
        • On court benches have been removed.
          • Patrons may bring their own non-scratching chairs.
          • Outdoor bleachers are closed.
    • Payment/Transactions: We will no longer process cash transactions or issue paper receipts. 
      • Members are encouraged to place a payment card on file or pay for services prior to arriving at the facility. 
      • Payment for programs is easily accepted via the member portal, our app or over the phone prior to arrival. 
    • Check-In:  Each participant and guest MUST check in, using the physical membership card provided or the digital membership card in the PNW Tennis Centers App.
      • All registered participants and guests must sign an electronic waiver before arrival as provided during the registration and confirmation process. Paper and tablet versions available on-site if needed.
      • Members with court reservations will receive an email message 24 hours prior with their court date, time and assigned court number. 
      • Court reservations should be done through the app, the website or by calling the front desk staff.
    • Sanitization: The facility has been updated with sneeze guards, new signage, and cleaned with new protocols for intensified disinfection.
      • High-traffic surface areas are sanitized every 3 hrs (handles, switches, etc.).
      • Hands free door handles are installed on bathroom doors. 
      • Exhaust fans will remain on during business hours.
    • Temporary/Limited Closures:
      • Restrooms limited to hand washing and restrooms only.
      • Showers and locker/changing room use is prohibited.
      • Coffee machine suspended.
      • Drinking fountain closed — Bottle filler OPEN.
      • Televisions will remain off.
      • Snack/water service for purchase suspended.
      • Scorecards on court have been removed.
      • Ball machine rental not available until further notice. 
      • Door flaps have been removed. 
      • Court dividers are to remain closed.
    • Pro shop: 
      • Shopping limited to one person at a time with permissions from the front desk. 
      • Shoppers must check in with front desk staff in order to proceed upstairs to shop.
      • Racket Demo program is temporarily suspended.

All players encouraged to bring: 

  • face covering 
  • tennis balls 
  • water bottle 
  • cleansing wipes 
  • hand sanitizer 
  • Towel
  • Portable non-scratching chair as facility seating will be unavailable. 

 

Follow USTA Playing Tennis Safety Guidelines 

For example, each player should bring their own tennis balls and avoid touching others’ tennis balls. 

  • Avoid changing sides.
  • Avoid handshakes or fist bumps.
  • Sanitize after touching shared surfaces.

 

Private Lesson/Programming 

  • There will be 15 minutes between lessons/programs to allow for sanitization. 
  • Players should be positioned at well spaced stations. 
  • Coaching equipment usage such as cones and targets are limited.
  • Each Pro/Staff will have designated teaching items and asked to sanitize these frequently. 
  • Members/Guests are not permitted to handle any coaching equipment. 
  • If possible, Pros/Staff are the only ones who should be touching the tennis balls. 
  • Players should not be using hoppers and mowers. 
  • No serving should be done, or serving lessons unless the member brings their own tennis balls. 
  • There should be no more than 5 students on a court (Phase 2). 
  • Pros/Staff must sanitize the court area and high traffic touch-points before and after each lesson/program.
  • Pros/Staff need to place their carts in the designated area after teaching, no carts can be left out on the courts unattended.
